Broncos News - Boots N' All

Ok guys, I thought I would put up a post with all the latest news and do a few updates to the website. And has become the case there is a lot of news to report from 'Drama' Valley. There just isn't going to be a quite day in Denver, not for a while with Tebow round. Well there are a lot of things to cover so lets get into it.

First up the news from today about the signing of ILB Nick Greisen, who if you remember was with the team last year but got injured before the season started. He did disappear off the team at some point, but he has been resigned. At 30 it is unlikely he will get a starting job, but you never know, but he is an excellent special teamer. Maybe he can take some reps on ST so Larsen can start at ILB?

Next up is the issue of Ryan Clady, dude what were you thinking! Clady
could be out for at least three months after partially tearing his patellar tendon over the weekend while playing basketball. But this sort of thing is a freak accident so not much can be done to prevent it, just hope he can recover quickly and get back onto the field. Hopefully before the season starts, because we don't have much depth behind him. Tyler Polumbus? I hope not, we could see the Broncos go after Flozell Adams formerly of the Cowboys, or could possibly trade for Jammal Brown of the Saints to help fill the void.

Check out the video "Its unfortunate" on NFL.com, McD talks about Clady and Tebow, also note at the end the little joke that McD throws it. Brought a smile to my face.

Another addition to the Broncos team was Akin Ayodele who we added during the end of the draft. Akin is a ILB for the Miami dolphins, he had 70 tackles last year and rotates in with the starters. Expect him to share time with Haggan at the other ILB spot next to DJ. Something cool to note "Akin" is a short name for "Akinola", which in Yoruba language means 'undefeated warrior'.

The next bit of news of course is the draft it's self. Now for those of you who missed it, it was a very busy few days for the Broncos. Trading picks a number of times and moving around to make 9 selections in the draft. They did give up a 5th and 6th round pick in next years draft to get it done. But these are the players that they ended up with:

Demaryius Thomas WR
Tim Tebow QB
Zane Beadles T-G
J.D Walton C
Eric Decker WR
Perrish Cox CB
Eric Oslen C
Syd'quan Thompson CB
Jammie Kirlew OLB/DE

Check out Draft Pick analysis to get a bit more information on each pick.

The Broncos also signed a number of undrafted rookies, 19 in total. They are:

Kevin Alexander ... OLB/DE ... 6-4 ... 265 ... Clemson
Alric Arnett ... WR ... 6-2 ... 189 ... West Virginia
Toney Baker ... RB ... 5-10 ... 225 ... North Carolina State
Jaron Baston ... DL ... 6-1 ... 305 ... Missouri
Devin Bishop ... ILB ... 6-1 ... 239 ... California
Korey Bosworth ... OLB/DE ... 6-1 ... 242 ... UCLA
Marcellus Bowman ... S ... 6-2 ... 225 ... Boston College
Chris Brown ... RB ... 5-10 ... 200 ... Oklahoma
Paul Duncan ... T ... 6-7 ... 315 ... Notre Dame
Ben Garland ... DL ... 6-5 ... 275 ... Air Force
Riar Geer ... TE ... 6-4 ... 250 ... Colorado
Patrick Honeycutt ... WR ... 5-9 ... 172 ... Middle Tennessee State
Chris Marinelli ... T ... 6-7 ... 300 ... Stanford
Kyle McCarthy ... S ... 6-1 ... 210 ... Notre Dame
Nathan Overbay ... TE ... 6-5 ... 270 ... Eastern Washington
Michael Shumard ... G ... 6-5 ... 301 ... Texas A&M
Jeff Stehle ... DL ... 6-6 ... 310 ... Wisconsin
Cassius Vaughn ... CB ... 5-11 ... 195 ... Mississippi
Landis Williams ... WR ... 5-10 ... 174 ... Maine

Because of these new players there will be a number of changes to players numbers and new ones will be assigned to the rookies. The new numbers are below:

2010 NFL Draft Picks:
Demaryius Thomas: 88
Tim Tebow: 15
Zane Beadles: 68
J.D. Walton: 50
Eric Decker: 87
Perrish Cox: 32
Eric Olsen: 69
Syd’Quan Thompson: 43
Jammie Kirlew: 53

New Numbers:
J.J. Arrington: 26
Akin Ayodele: 51
Justin Bannan: 99
D’Anthony Batiste: 67
Bruce Hall: 29
Tyler Polumbus: 77
A.J. Trapasso: 2
Jamal Williams: 76

Notes about the numbers: Tim Tebow's jersey has been the hottest jersey at the moment, it has broken all previous jersey sale records for a rookie. Also Eric Decker picked 87 the same number as Eddie McCaffrey, some believe Decker could be the second coming of McCaffrey, only time will tell. Check out the Q&A Decker did for Bronocs Zone.

And finally onto the news for today and going ahead. All the rookies are in or heading to Dove Valley for rookie training camp. All 28 rookies will be in attendance to start their NFL careers. Check out this video about Training Tebow on NFL.com. The training dates are as follows:

Today-Sunday: Mandatory, rookies-only minicamp

Voluntary full-squad minicamps: May 17-19; May 24-27; June 2-4; June 7-9

Mandatory full-squad minicamp: June 11-13

Help our Rookies be the BEST!

For me, I am a massive madden fan, but hate it when our good players get ripped off on stats and our players are, well crap. If you didn't know Madden 11 is already in the works. And it has some really cool stuff on it and the improvements look good. But what I am saying is I came across this:

http://maddennfl.easports.com/draft.action

This is were fans can come and vote for the ratings for this years rookies. Now I don't think the game stats will just be based on this but they will be used in the final ratings. That being said you need to pass this on to every broncos madden fan who is sick of having crap ratings for our players. We need to get out there and vote to give our rookies the best chance of getting good ratings. So pass this on and vote!

Competition Results and Winner

Well as you can see in the picture it was a close run race this year. With Doc and 80# tying for the lead and the victory. So for 2010 the Broncos Blog Draft Guru (BBDG) will be Doc and 80#. It was a fun comp and was an interesting draft process. I was happy with what we did but was very disappointed that we passed up so much young defensive talent. Would I have preferred defense talent with the extra 2nd, 3rd and 4th we used on Tebow, yes I would have. But if Tebow pans out and I bloody hope he does then I will be OK with this chose, but at the moment I worry, because we have to go against some of the most explosive players in the AFC West with Dad's army.

Oh well on to the table of results and showing what we know about the draft, we did, well terrible, but it was fun. Here is to the Broncos in 2010.

Comp Leader Board after the 1st Round

Ok guys below is the table with peoples name(handle) and their score so far. So out of a possible 32 points these are the scores that we got. I have only marked the first part, the part about the 1st round. After the weekend I will go over the second part, the broncos draft. I haven't started marking for that so no points have been given for part 2. Check the comments below for your marks if you think you were ripped off.

Tebow, Thomas Make For Wild First Round For Broncos in 2010 NFL Draft

Well my fellow crazy Broncomaniacs, it is official... QB Tim Tebow and WR Demaryius Thomas are now apart of the Denver Broncos. Honestly, I am THRILLED with these picks. At first I couldn't figure why in the world McDaniels kept trading down but now, the wait was totally worth it. I hate to say it like this but I think we have as close of replacement as we're gonna get for Brandon Marshall. Thomas is similar in style, height, and build like Marshall, and I think he can do a world of good with Denver. Our offense is gonna be rockin' and a rollin' this season. I can hardly stand the excitement. As for Tebow... McD is a genius. I think he's going to prove himself to a lot of people and overcome his "underdog" status.

I proudly welcome both players to Denver and now hopefully I can muster up the patience to wait 4 months for at least some pre-season action. I'm not so sure I can make it. This may sound like an overreaction but I am really content with our QB's... Orton, Quinn and Tebow (I think we all know Brandstater is gonna go).

For just the first round, man, we were all over the place but I think we played it really smart. We are the talk of the draft so far for a couple of reasons: first we trade all over the place, then not to outshine the pick of Thomas but by us picking Tebow, we already made the major news on the Yahoo homepage. haha No one thought he'd get picked in the first round... we made some major news tonight, and for good reason. I hope I'm not the only one really excited about these picks. Boys, I think we are in for a surprise this season. This was an absolutely wild and unpredictable first round... and to think there are 2 more days of this! Brace yourselves.

Keep the faith Bronco Country....
GO BRONCOS in 2010!!!!

Oh and Tebow is smokin' hot!! He's gonna look fabulous in Bronco Orange & Blue! Yep, this was a fun time... fun time indeed!

Comments For the Mock Draft Competition

This is just so we can start a new post to comment and talk on. I saw TheRoyalBeast had commented on the Competition Submission post. I would like to keep that Post to mock draft submissions only just to make it a little easier on Aussie. I thought I'd make this post for us to talk on and stuff. So talk away!
Also just wanted to say good luck to everyone because your going to need it!

Competition Submissions

Ok everyone this is the post for the competition submission of your mock drafts. You have up to the start of the draft that is 7:30 est of draft day to submit. Any submission after that will not be accepted. You can submit as much as you want in the comments but it will be your LAST submission that I take. So one entry per person. Also if you update multiple times can you delete the older comments, it will just make it easier for me.

Well that is it, good luck and have fun ~ Aussie Out!

Recap of the rules and notes:

The first part is as follows, for each team in the 1st round you need to pick the player that you think that team will pick. Now we are not going to worry about what position that pick is. For example 11th Broncos McClain, we are not worried about the 11th position but the player that is picked. So if you think the Broncos will pick McClain put down Broncos McClain. You need to pick the player that will go to that team. For each correct pick you will get a point.

The second part is you need to pick the draft of the Broncos. Now this could be a little hard. You can pick the draft as it is with the current picks. Or if you want predict the trades you think that will happen, for example Scheffler still needs to move. If you pick the right player with a pick from a trade that could be the difference between winning and losing. Correct picks of players and in the right ROUND will give you 1 point. Correct pick of player but in the wrong round will only be half a point. The blogger with the most points from both parts will win the title of Broncos Blog Draft Guru (BBDG)!

Changes and Updates will be allowed leading up to the draft. But the day before draft the submission will be closed and no updates or changes will be accepted. I will post up the winner on here with an analysis of the points for each blogger that participate. Also some digression will be taken when marking picks so as to be as fair as possible.

I will get the last mock draft submitted by each person and use that to give you points. As grandmaster of the competition I will get to make that decision so try to be clear and I will be as fair as possible. Each person's results will be able to be view though so you can see the results I will post them up for every one.

And the winner is the most points in total from the 2 parts if you didn't get that.

Also was thinking, if you are game enough predict a trade for a player. I am feeling the Broncos trade a 5th to the Pats for adalius thomas. I Haven't put that in my mock but I am thinking about it. If you are game to do as such and you are right I will award that person 2 points.

To make this easier I will award points on the player. If you think we will get Thomas for example put him down. I will not take into account what pick is traded for him. If you guess the correct player two points, but you have to be game and it could change your mock draft completely. Good Luck.

This is an Example not official:

1st. Jared Odrick (shocker)
1st. Maurkice Pouncey (trade a 2nd and a 3rd, 45 and one from the moving back trade, and maybe Scheffler, feeling Cincinnati)
2nd. Terrance Cody (trade next years first)
2nd. Toby Gerhart (at 43)
3rd. Sean Lee
4th. Danario Alexander
5th. Trade for Adalius Thomas
6th. Erik Cook
7th. Trinidon Holliday

I don't mind if your part 1 and part 2 don't line up. But if you get it right in one and wrong in the other you will have to live with that.

Do I get extra points for consecutive picks right? As for the extra points, the answer is no. One pick, one point. But if you say something like, trade back into the 25 range for someone. If that player and team is right 1 point and they do take him at 25, I may award another half a point.

Well do it as long as I can understand what has happened then it shouldn't be a problem.

April 19, 2010

Scheffler is now GOOOONNNNEEEE!

Well it has happened as we all had excepted, Scheffler has been traded, not to the Benegals but to the Lions!

Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler and a seventh-round draft pick have been traded to the Detroit Lions in a three-team trade that sends the Philadelphia Eagles' fifth-round draft choice to Denver and Detroit outside linebacker Ernie Sims, a former top 10 draft pick, to the Philadelphia Eagles.

So we end up with a 5th round pick, ok, not great and we gave up a 7th rounder, no biggy. But it is interesting the value that was put on him. Thought we could have got a little more. Oh well.

In other news:

Tebow is thinking of attending the draft, the reason players attend the draft is usually because they are 1st round picks and get to have their photo taken. Is this something that Tebow is feeling will happen? Have teams told him this is what will happen? Very interesting.

And finally our boy and fan favourite Ryan Torain has signed with a team. And it is the Redskins, he joins Shanny again who one could say is really in love with the kid. Good luck Torain hope you stay healthy.

That is it from me, keep your eyes out of the post for final submissions for the competition. You have right up until the draft starts, once it does no more submissions, check below for competition details ~ Aussie Out!

NFL Mock Draft Competition

In lead up to the NFL draft I have been asked by some other bloggers to put up a bit of a competition. The Prize is bragging rights for the coming year as the Broncos Blog draft guru. So I guess you are asking how is this going to work. There are going to be two parts to this competition.

Good bye, Marshall is GOOONNNEEE!

Hey guys and gal, well I thought I better post this up as it is major news in Bronco Country. Well we all know it now, Brandon Marshall is now a Fin. He goes back home into gang infested Miami haha. Ok so my view on this trade wasn't that I didn't care either way. I didn't mind if we kept him because he is very talented but I was happy if we got good value for him. Which I think we did, I was hoping for two 2nd rounders and that is what we got, which I think is good.

This will be an amazing trade if Marshall gets into trouble and gets suspended for a year. Only time will tell if this is a good move. For one I think it is a good move, why? One I don't like men that beat women (not proven but he has problems) and he disappeared in the redzone, maybe Miami won't be able to score any points? And hopefully we can.

But this does change our draft a little with the extra pick. Which is good if McD hits on the good players. We will see. And now Scheffler has signed his tender so he is probably on the way out as well, hopefully we get good value for him. Here's to the Broncos in 2010 ~ Aussie Out!

Create a Draft

Hey guys and gal, the draft is drawing close and the anticipation is mounting. I can't wait for the draft I just want to know what is going to happen in the draft, what trades are going to happen, what will happen with the Marshall Saga. I just want to know! So I thought we could have some fun. Below is a list of the players we worked out, I have broken them down into what rounds players are in based on the CBS rating. Ok so the idea is that each one of you pick a single player in each round and post the draft you want in the comments. I thought this would be something fun to do leading up to the draft.

Notes - Instructions:
I am not taking into account any trades and don't care where they rank compared to where we pick in that round. Just want to know who you like and in what round. If you want include some words for the reason for your picks. I don't mind if you change it up and pick a guy that is in the 2nd round in the 3rd, like Dexter McCluster or pick a guy earlier like in the 4th not the 5th. I just want to get a feel for what people are thinking. Well that is it really have fun with the choices.

Broncos and the Draft

Hey guys, over the previous few months myself and many others have been dreaming up drafts and different ideas and possibilities. So I was thinking about what I should do as a lead up to the draft. I was thinking of updating my big board with pro day information, but I just don't have the time for that. And most of you guys are already down with all that information anyway, and know your prospects. Therefore I have decided to throw my 5 cents (we don't have 2 cents here) worth into the discussion and say what I think will go down in the draft with the knowledge that we have. This will be my scenario and I will try to give a reason for why it will happen as well.

That being said lets jump into it and start with the first round. As it stands now we have the 11th overall pick and we will be busy. I think moving down is a real option, but will McD and X-men have a different view and move up, I hope not. So my pick at 11 is Pouncey (watch this interview, love this guy), without a doubt I think this is the guy we will go after, he will provide many options along the line and fill a big need. The problem is that a center doesn't go this high, the reason may be money, but I think it is also teams want big time play makers like Spiller and Bryant at this pick. A center in the first is a luxury pick that teams built close to wining a Superbowl would pick. But I think we will want Pouncey and we will move down a few spots to pick him and let a team that is after one of these play makers move up and get one.

So who to trade down with? At the moment it looks like the Giants are the main one. They are going after McClain or Spiller, both of which may go earlier. But I don't think so, I think Spiller will go early say top 10. And I think many teams will pass on McClain, why? Because he is an ILB which usually fall in the draft and that he has Crohns. Teams will look at him as a risk, they may worry that they are only going to get 2 maybe 3 years out of him, so they will pass on him. Which means the Giants could be looking at Weatherspoon at the 15th pick. If Clausen is still around we maybe able to entice a team to move, but I doubt it again. We will take Pouncey with the 11th.

Now for people saying what about Odrick or Dan Williams? To those people I say no. Odrick is flying up the boards and has a lot of upside. He could sit and learn but if you are picking a guy at 11 you want him to come in and start right away. The only players that get picked in the top 15 and don't start are QBs that are being groomed. And for Dan Williams it is the same, he has been flying up draft boards since his Senior bowl where he looked better than Cody. He originally was a 2nd-3rd round pick. The reason he is so high on the board is because of economics. There are so many teams that run the 3-4 and need a NT, and there are maybe 5 or 6 in this draft. So demand out weighs supply so his stock gets pushed up. It would not surprise me if he fell out of the first round or if Cody gets picked before him. I could go on about Dan Williams but that is not why I am here.

So if we take Pouncey a number of things could happen to set up the second round. It looks like the Steelers are also looking at Pouncey and if he is gone I think they go Cody, reason he goes so high is the same reason as Dan Williams, Cody will be a Top 20 pick this year. If Cody is gone the Chargers will go RB in the 1st and get a NT in the second. Which is what I think the Broncos will be doing.

The Chargers have the 40th pick and that means they could go either Cam Thomas or Linval Joseph. Cam is the higher rated prospect so they will probably take him. Leaving us to take Linval at 45. But Miami and the Bills pick in between those two picks so we could miss out on both, in that situation we would take the top rated defensive lineman for the 3-4 there. Maybe Lamaar Houston? But for this I am going to say we get Linval, I hope. Other possibilities are Jacoby Ford, Vladimir Ducasse, a WR that drops out of the 1st or one of the top corners that also does maybe Patrick Robinson.

Which leads as into the 3rd round. I think that the Broncos will have fair game at a lot of players in this round and there are a number of positions the Broncos could go. There is a possibility of a RB, ILB or WR in this round. There are a number of prospects that I will be happy with in this round and I think that the Broncos could go after. There is Dexter McCluster (hey 80#), Toby Gerhart, Ben Tate or there is an ILB, Sean Lee, Donald Butler, Pat Angerer or Jamar Chaney. There is the possibility for a WR in this round, maybe one that drops out of the 2nd round, or maybe Riley Cooper?

In the fourth round the Broncos will get what ever they didn't get in the 3rd round. So a RB or an ILB, I think Chaney would still be around in the 4th and so would Riley Cooper if they go that option. Or they could go a power back in the 4th if they take an ILB in the 3rd. Maybe someone like Blount if they want to take that risk.

In the 5-7 rounds three things will happen. We will pick a player for O line depth, maybe Erik Cook or Mike Johnson. We will pick an hybrid DE/LB to help with the pass rush, a project player. And the other pick could be used on a number of things. We could go a punter in the 7th for competition. We could possibly pick Trindon Holliday for a kick return duties and an extra option at WR. Problem is that he is on the rise but I think he is good value in the 7th, he probably won't go higher than the 6th but some team may jump up and grab him. Or there is the possibility of John Skelton, who is one of my favourite players in the 5th. Problem is there are reports that he will go in the third, but I doubt it. I think that a lot of players have been over hyped in the middle rounds and they could fall. I like Skelton late in the draft, and the only reason we take him is if they don't like Brandstater or we ain't happy with his progression which is possible but I don't think this will happen.
Ok to recap that, this is what I think will go down:

1st. Pouncey
2nd. Linval Joseph
3rd. Toby Gerhart or Dexter McCluster, which is available (because I think the LB's will be available in the 4th)
4th. Sean Lee, Donald Butler, Pat Angerer or Jamar Chaney, whoever is available
5th (we will get a 5th some how, they is no way we don't pick in every round). Mike Johnson or John Skelton, Riley Cooper?
6th. Erik Cook or A DE/OLB
7th. Trindon Holliday or Punter

I would be happy with that but this doesn't include any trades. There is the trade for Scheffler which will go down. And we will get a 2nd to 4th round pick for him and with that we can get a guy that we couldn't get with our original in that round pick, like a WR or a defensive lineman.

If we move back in the first we could get another 2nd or 3rd round pick depending on how far we move back. Which means we could get another play maker or a young secondary player.

There is also the option of trading Marshall for a 2nd or late 1st where again we could do a number of things.

And we could possibly do the same thing last year and trade back into the 2nd and get another player.

Either way this could be a monster draft, if we hit on the players and pick good ones, we could really set us up for a run at the Superbowl next year which is a BIG call. But if we get it done anything is possible.

And we will get a 5th rounder some how, maybe with the Marshall trade or Scheffler, we will pick in every round this year.

My perfect draft in a perfect world would be as follows:

1st. Pouncey
2nd (Marshall trade). Linval Joseph
2nd (trade back in). Jacoby Ford
2nd. Lamarr Houston or a DB
3rd (Moved back in first). Toby Gerhart
3rd (Scheffler trade). Dexter McCluster
3rd. One of the ILB, i like Sean Lee
4th. Riley Cooper or another WR
5th (somehow). John Skelton
6th. Erik Cook or DE/OLB
7th. Trindon Holliday

So we get a C, NT, DE, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, ILB, QB, G. Do I see this happening nope, I think the above one is more likely this is just including trades and I picked guys that were favourites with us. I don't think we will trade Marshall, I am not fussed either way. But hey it is fun to think about it. If you disagree or have something to say post it below. Well that is it from me ~ Aussie out.
