Rookie Edition: Richard Quinn "His Time Will Come"

With 3 possible starting tight ends already on hand with the Denver Broncos, Richard Quinn’s chances of seeing any regular season action are slim but nevertheless his time will come.

Only time will tell when he gets that opportunity to make his mark in the NFL.

Richard Emanuel Quinn Jr. was born on September 6, 1986 in Huntsville, Alabama to mother Yolanda and father Richard Quinn Sr. He played two seasons at Butler High School in Huntsville before his family moved to Maple Heights, Ohio his sophomore year.

It was there at Maple Heights High School he began to show promise as not only a tight end, but an improving receiver.

It doesn’t hurt to be a flexible football player on the field.

He was coached by Jeff Rotsky and became a two-time all-conference and all-district selection at Maple Heights. Quinn was also named the #15 tight end in the country by Rivals.com and was a member of the SuperPrep’s All-Midwest Team.

As a junior he caught 12 passes for 254 yards and one touchdown. In his final year at Maple Heights he led his high school to a winning record of 10-2 and a playoff berth. He also posted 32 catches for 468 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior.

In addition to football, Quinn also played basketball and became the top rebounder in the conference in 2004.

After he enrolled at the University of North Carolina in January of 2005 he began participating in spring drills. He played in nine games for the Tar Heels on special teams and as a reserve tight end.

In 2006, he fractured his shoulder blade a week before the season opener and spent the season as a medical redshirt.

Technically, as Quinn saw no action on the field in 2006, his sophomore year began in 2007. As a redshirt sophomore for UNC he played in 12 games (with 8 starts) recording four receptions for 27 yards (6.8 avg.) and one touchdown.

On September 15, 2007 in a game against Virginia he recorded his first touchdown of his college career on a 2-yard reception. He had another highlight of his sophomore year on October 16, 2007 when he was named one of UNC’s offensive players of the week in a win against Miami.

Quinn made the 2008 season his last in college but he made it a good one. Even though he remained a redshirt for his junior year he played in 13 games (with 12 starts) posting 8 receptions for 97 yards (12.1 avg.) and one touchdown. He blocked for the UNC offense that led the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) in passing efficiency (138.9).

In a game at Miami he posted 2 receptions for 24 yards (12 avg.) and in another game against Duke, Quinn reeled in 2 passes for 42 yards (21 avg.) as well as a 32-yard touchdown. He was named one of UNC’s offensive players of the week after wins against Duke and #20 Georgia Tech.

He also received honorable mention All-American accolades from Scout.com.

After the 2008 season, Richard Quinn elected to forgo his senior year and entered himself into the 2009 NFL Draft. He was selected in the second round by the Denver Broncos (64th overall).

As previously stated, with 3 tight ends (with experience) already at hand to be starters for the Broncos in the 2009 season, his chances of playing are slim. However, it is never too late to think about what Richard Quinn could give to the NFL.

With only 12 career receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns, Quinn’s main talent lies in blocking. Essentially, he gave the NC Tar Heels another offensive tackle to have at the line of scrimmage and he did that the best.

Most teams are looking for a tight end coupled with the talent of being a receiving specialist. With the improvement of his receiving skills, he could become a sought after tight end + receiver.

Although now (being this upcoming season) may not be his break in the NFL he does, however, have 3 people ahead of him that he could learn from. I am sure Graham and Scheffler, both on top of their game, would be willing to take Mr. Quinn under their wings and share their knowledge.

Indeed, it would be a great opportunity for him and beneficial to his career.

With training camp just a few weeks away, Quinn will get his chance to show what he’s made of to the coaches and his fellow teammates, hoping to prove he’ll be worth a starting job soon in his future.

Just wait and see. His time will come.

  5. I don't like the white background. Too simple. It looked better orange. Now it's plain. It looks less of a Broncos site.

  6. Good article Ashley. I had faith..... Quinn, I think, will play more of a blocking role, at least initially. We are yet to see how much McD will utilize the TE's in the passing game. NE loved the blocking TE's (Graham). But I think that "The Mighty Quinn" is our TE of the future.

  31. I'm fine... getting stressed as to how I'm gonna retain this one class of mine cause I'm having to wait till tomorrow to pay for my classes.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My days of edumacating myself are done. Been there, done that. Good luck on that tomorrow.

I will not be staying on long, as I said. I have to get up early and I have a long day. I still have to take the garbage out and the recycleble stuff. I just shaved so I don't have to do it in the morning. Just shower and go. I have to get grocries tomorrow also. never a dull moment.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm waiting for my days of edumacation to be over... getting really annoyed with it. Its more like I'm annoyed with the school I'm at right now. Irritate me to no end!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Do you live with your folks, Princess?

    ReplyDelete
  35. sorry, I'm back now.

holy crap, the craziest thing just happened. my dog escaped from my backyard when by brother opened our gate and so he goes running down our street. then I see a silver pick up truck driving up my street with my dog in the passenger seat. I told them to stop and had to talk to them because apparently my dog tried to kill the old ladies cat ( my dog isn't very intimidating ) so she was going to take him to the animal shelter. I had to talk to her and got my dog back. very strage though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah I live with my mom. No family out here at all, just me and her.

LOL, quite the story there Doc.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have to leave in 10 mins. going to crash for the night at my friends house just so you guys know.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Did Dorathy, I mean Doc, save Toto from the mean ole wicked witch, ha, ha. Glad you rescued him Doc. Sounds like the woman is a heartless be-otch?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well I get to crash at my house and then have a very stressful day tomorrow... whoopee!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. ya its dark outside and I had to stand in the middle of the road trying to convince this stupid old hag to give me my dog back.

    ReplyDelete
  41. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... do you have any idea how funny that sounds?! Oh my word, you people make me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Im just pissed because she is lecturing me on how to control my dog ( my dog wouldn't hurt a fly, he's just a playful little puppy ) and she is treating him like he's some vicious dog that tried to kill her cat. she grabbed him by the face and started yelling at him right in front of me. if she hit him I would've hit her.

well I gotta fly off into the wind now. adios amigos.

    ReplyDelete
  43. She does sound like a wicked witch however don't ever hit a woman, even someone as mean as this lady... don't want to end up comparing yourself to Marshall!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I wish somebody would have attempted that with my wolf. Zeb would have been having himself a midnight snack.

    ReplyDelete
  45. haha, I bet he would have. So why did you ask me earlier if I lived with my mom?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Laters Doc. I have to go to Ashley. Watching Fortress while I type. Rather finish watching then sleep. I will try to do an article tomorrow night. Something about the team as a whole and the projection for the season, who will start, who will make 2nd team and who will get cut.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Just asking because I never did before. Wondered if you lived with family or roommates?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Alright, talk to ya later. Night night!

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL, maybe. Should've seen me earlier tonight... was acting like I was 6. Me & my dog went sliding down the stairs... hahaha, too much fun.

    ReplyDelete
  50. No it was even funnier than that... well it was to me. I sat like right on the top of the stairs and I have on these really slippery kind of shorts and I just went sliding down the stairs and my dog was chasing me and barking at me. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  51. I want to see that on video, ha, ha. Well, good night for real. Sleep well.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yes it was a great camera moment. Night night!! hahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ok don't be afraid the Gouldinator1 is back, time to fix up the colours. Now if I change the background to orange is that all that needs to be done or is there more. Personally, I think a blue background with the white/gray comment background would be nice, thoughts??

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh everyone gone, be at uni all day so that is why I haven't been around.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hey, came back on just to see if anything new had changed with the site and I'm so stressed out I can't sleep!

I like the orange in the background but if there was a way to make it orange & blue in the background with a white comment page, I think that would look cool. A white comment page is easier to read although I really liked it when it was blue. I'm just thinking it would look really cool if it was like an orange & blue collage in the background. I need my orange somehow!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ok thanks to Ashely I have had a made idea. I hope this works.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Excited to see what you come up with!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Nothing over the top just an idea

    ReplyDelete
  59. Alright, gonna try and go to sleep all stressed out. This is not gonna go well!!
