Well, mmm, well... damn it was a weird day today. I awoke to find that we had Brady Quinn on our team. At first I was like damn we must have given up a kings ransom for him. But I was happily mistaken and then a little sad. Firstly I think this was a great trade, a QB that has been on a very poor team that could very well be a franchise QB in a few years for a FB, a 6th round pick in 2011 and a pick in 2012 that could be as high as a 4th rounder. But I was sad to find out that they had sent our boy Hillis to the Browns, I wish him well. So my view on the trade, it was a good solid move without much risk, at least Quinn could be a backup for the next decade if he can't start. He is an upgrade over Simms who is now likely to be cut. And will hopeful light a fire under Orton's bum, that there is someone there to challenge him if he screws up. Look for Orton to show up to the off season program tomorrow even if he doesn't want too. Also look for the battle in preseason to heat up.What else does this mean for the Broncos? Well now they only have one FB and that is Larsen so it will be very hard for him to start at ILB now, which means Haggan is now favorite for the job. Also means that we probably won't go QB in the draft, which is too bad for my boy John Skelton that I thought could be good for us. Also means that McD has his new boy toy, he loves his good looking QBs, see Tom Brady haha. And what number will Quinn wear, Gaffney has his number 10 so he may not get it, what about the beloved 7 or the hated 6?
It also was a very busy day for the AFC west. Former Chargers RB L.T has signed with the Jets, at least he won't be burning as anymore. Andra Davis is visiting with the Bills. And the Raiders also made a trade with the Browns today for their LB Kamerion Wimbley for a 3rd round pick, he will probably play DE for them.
Other news, Hank Fraley signed with the Rams, so he is off the Broncos board.

ReplyDeleteill tell you what i was texting chris earlier. i'm going to minicamp atleast twice a week this year. Your inside reporter if you will. so i'll tell you first hand who i like. but for the time being, i'd say orton because he has a year under his belt in mcd's offense, not a very similar one brady ran in college and last year in cleveland.

ReplyDeleteWell, hmmm, as for looks Orton looks much much better without that dreadful beard but Quinn is definitely H-O-T. lol Now when it comes to their playing abilities, I'm kinda on the fence with these two. I can see Orton being the starter cuz we got him in the what was the mother of all trades last year, so it was like McD had to make him starter just bcuz of that deal. But now he has some real competition for the starting job. Plain and simple: Simms just doesn't have it. He'll be cut, just wait and see. Like I've said before either one of these guys would make a great starter for us and the other would make a more reliable backup that Simms couldn't be for us. In all honesty, I'm perfectly happy with either one being our starter bcuz then I know if something happens to him we have a backup that I won't be worried about. I like Quinn a lot, never could understand him being with Cleveland... wasn't a good fit for him. I think he'd be great in our system. We all saw how Orton's abilities showed up once he got traded... he wasn't this horrible no-good QB everyone thought he was based solely on what he did or what he didn't do while in Chicago. Same goes Brady... he got stuck with a crappy team that failed to have a system match him, so that equals no success which makes him look bad and therefore you get a bunch of worry-warts thinking he'll sink our team if he's made starter. He's in a new city, on a new team with new coaches & players... how well he does won't resemble his playing time in Cleveland. He's got some serious weapons to work with like Royal and an O-line in the works and if we keep Marshall by some miracle, we'll be set on offense. That's my 2 cents.
And as for my picture on the right... Torain and Hillis may no longer be Broncos but I am forever engraved with Orange & Blue blood for my Broncos. This is my team man, I'm not going anywhere no matter how ugly it gets or what goofball is our HC. Should change that picture to the one of me and Stokley, haha. And #7 is retired... off limits... out of service... expired... Brady will just have to pick a new number. Anything but #7.
