27 - 13 - Loss - Seahawks vs Broncos - Recap

The question is can this guy save us and lead us to victories? My answer to that is yes he can. Coming off a bad game Orton made a lot of good throws and some good reads. He only threw two bad balls, one that should have been intercepted. And the other, the left handed one which was intercepted. Remember that it was fourth down and he went for it being the preseason, just throw it up there and hope to make a play. If this had been the regularly season he probably would have tucked it in and gone for it himself. Or we would have taken the Field Goal instead of go for it. I think Orton answered a lot of questions today about what he can bring this season.

The big downer and the reason we lost in this game was the defense. When you bring the house you need to cover the flats which were open all day with screens in this game. Third and long killed us all day in this game as it has done in the past. I thought Ayers looked slow and got beaten on the run a few times and was out of position. I thought Champ was out of position on a few plays which resulted in a few completions on his side. Hasselbeck wasn't scared of Champ and made Champ's mistakes pay. I thought Larsen had a good game and could beat out Davis who is slow in the pass coverage. I thought Goodman did alright but if your a corner you have to make plays and he didn't do that. Houshmandzadeh's touchdown was as soft as they come.

I think there is a major problem in the middle of the field and I have seen it in both games. We have a good rush and a good secondary but no middle coverage. In both games we have got sacks early because the QB is looking down field and players are covered. But they make adjustments and attack under the coverages and over the rush. Which happens to be a big hole, Andra Davis and DJ Williams can't cover sideline to sideline so Wide Receivers and Running Backs are getting to the second level to easily and making big plays. I think this needs to be addressed.

The muffed catches were a joke Smith, Mckinley come on catch that...stuff. It was nice to see Prater kick a big bomb which is what I except from him.

The question at the start of the article shouldn't be can Orton lead this team and win games, it should be can DJ Williams lead the defense and get turnovers and support Orton's good work. Because so far I am not impressed. Another two games and still no turnovers, turnovers are just as rare as 4 and out for our defense, so pick that stuff up. Well that is my view tell me if I am wrong- Aussie Out!

Update - Phonz Smith left the game with an leg injury and Chris Simms left the game with a foot injury.

  1. Oh something I noticed about that pic of Orton, if someone really wanted to they could enhance the pic of the wristcage and read the play calls.

  2. Great story Aussie. I think you have it pegged pretty good. It's preseason and there is alot of learning to be done again this week. At least you kept it real. Most are calling for Orton's head. And McD's. They are not to happy with Goodman either. Man I'm sick of how everyone is just waiting to pounce on anything bad. It has been a crazy offseason, that will be highly scrutinized, that's for sure.
P.S. You missed draft to play Madden surprised you pulled yourself away to watch the game much less write about it. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  3. I don't know about the wristband. They would hide their mouths so other teams wouldn't read their lips to steal plays and now they have them in plain view. Maybe they're encrypted.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I agree with Digger. Orton makes 2 bad throws and people are calling for his head. its preseason, give him time.

  5. Good article Aussie. The D did look awful last night. My biggest issue was everything that we did and did not do in the entire 2nd half of the game. Absolute crap if you ask me. Brandstater made it very clear as to why he is a 3rd stringer. The whole 2nd half was like a shortened recap of what our entire '08 season was like. Injuries, ridiculous unnecessary penalties, bad defense, mediocre offense... need I go on? I'm not about to stress over that game too much cause its still only pre season, thank goodness. All I can say is our regular season better not be a repeat of last year of the game we had last night. I really believe Dawkins will make a world of difference for us and our defense when he gets better. Just hope they don't have him play at all in our other 2 pre season games. Its not worth that risk of losing a big player like that. We don't need it. We need our guys to stay healthy this year... big reason why we failed last season. I'm not as angry as it may sound, just frustrated. I'm pretty much over this game, I just had a friend really tick me off last night and that happened right after we lost. I'm more angry about the conversation this friend and I had.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow princess, sounds like you didn't have a good night. And what was up with your friend? was he giving you crap about the broncos?

  7. For all the madden fans check this link, roster update. Notice at the bottom they increased our rating of the O-line

  8. My night was going just fine till that pick by Lucas happened. The game just made my head spin and then this friend of mine came back home (his house) and 10 minutes later he ticks me off. I was at his house staying with his 2 kids while he and his wife went to a BD party. And actually he's a huge Bronco fan so no issues there. However, I won't go into details about the conversation we had as it had to do with God. I'm a strong believer, he isn't... you can imagine how it went.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh yeah I can guess how that went down.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I've been around. Blogged with DD this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  11. What up Digger, yeah I was just wondering where everyone else is. Doc, Jazzy, also Florio's_mom said he would get more picks of training camp for us but he hasn't been around. Just wondering what happened to these guys.

  12. Hey Aussie. Do you know the site Dave always used to mention for cheap jerseys?

    ReplyDelete
  13. http://www.jerseysrus.net/index.html

Had to look at DB.com blogs to find it, but I sort of knew where it was.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hey Ashley. Sorry won't call you princess. Hope you don't mind.

  15. I am good, pretty pumped from the weekend, we won our first game, the Charity Bowl, we raise money for cancer in our first game. It was the first time in 4 years that our team had won it. Plus I got a pick so I was pumped. Then got to spend time with my GF yesterday. But now at boring old work.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Aussie
Why do you say your f_cked with your FF team. It ain't to bad actually. Just don't have Lynch as a starter for first 4 weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Actual Marshall will be my secret weapon. Well I thought I was f'ed because I didn't show to the draft and didn't get to pick 90% of my team. But on further review last night I was a little more happy with it. So I am not as totally screwed as what I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Very cool about the Charity Bowl, congrats on the win.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You have some I wanted. Don't know if you picked those or autopick, but send me a trade offer.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks Princess it was a hard tough game, 14-13. But we were so happy afterwards. And Digger I ain't giving them up I like what I got. And since you say you want them makes me want to keep them even more.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You guys have any ideas for articles. I'm gonna do an article for here on the 50th anniversary but I'd like a few more ideas. I can't promise too many articles considering my HW is piling up fast. But I'll do what I can.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well why not do an article on the history of the broncos, the 50 years that thy have been in the NFL. From the start to the current.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Would be a long article don't ya think? lol Good idea though, I'll see what I can put together.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am not saying a year by year summary, but highlighting key stories and events in broncos history.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Haha another nugget player got arrested.

    ReplyDelete
  26. lol, I wasn't thinking a year by year summary either, just was thinking there are so many great highlights, it could turn out to be a long article.

Yeah real shocker about that Nugget player. Who on that team hasn't been arrested?

    ReplyDelete
  27. The coach?

Well I guess you will figure it out. It should be a good article.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ash
It's a little early, but you could give a run down on who will be cut. We have 80 players now and have to get to 53 by 9/5/09. As many as 8 can go on practice squad, but they have to be rookies or 1st year players who have not been on the active roster for 8 games I think.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Aussie
Sent you a trade offer. See what you think.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ok I will check it. And that is a good idea Digger, who will be cut and why.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's a good idea too Digger.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No way Digger! Do you think I am high haha.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well you are young. You could be. Don't jump down my throat that I said that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No offense taken, I was joking. It just wasn't a good trade from my point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  35. hahaha, don't know what that was all about but was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  36. See princess you would have enjoyed FF. haha

    ReplyDelete
  37. It was a 56 and 65 for a 45 and 100.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jazzy talked her out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah I don't think I would've enjoyed it like you guys do, cause I have no clue what Digger just said! hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  40. I know he did haha, Orton could be good but without Marshall he is a risk. And I don't like Reggie, is injury prone and not an every down back. And 121 doesn't equal 145.

    ReplyDelete
  41. More like I talked myself out of it. I wasn't just saying a while ago that if you guys really needed someone by Friday night I might do it, but I never wanted to join in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You would have joined for our sake. Just 'cause you're nice that way.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah she was going to fill a spot if needed, how nice of her.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It doesn't take as much work as Jazzy made it sound like.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just have to watch out for bye weeks and injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah Digger is right it doesn't take much. But there are those that study night and day to try and have the best team.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sometimes you put to much thought into it. Like you bench a RB 'cause he's playing a tough D and then he runs for 200 yards against them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah done that before, benched a player because I thought he had a bad matchup but then he dominates.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ha, yeah it would've been nice of me but my head would've been spinning. I'll be staying up working my butt off to do write 2 really big papers, other homework (doesn't sound like much but its more than most people could handle) and then, seems like I've gotten myself involved in writing articles for this site. I would've been miserable having to deal with a FF league in the middle of all that. First, I have no interest in it and then I have clue what I'm doing. Would've been real funny though if I had joined and by pure luck I won it. Now that would've been hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  50. hey all, jumped in to say hi. be back on in about 2 hours

    ReplyDelete
  51. What if I threw in Donnie Avery for Jeremy Maclin?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey Doc, bye Doc. Haha Princess that would have been funny. And no Digger Maclin is one of those young guys I hope develops and can catch alot of balls, that is why I picked him.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Alright. Good night all.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hey, can someone tell me the name of the movie that is on TNT. I have cable so I can't see.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Night Digger catch you round.

    ReplyDelete
  56. what up princss? I'm leaving now. be back in 1 hour and 37 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Haha very exact you better be or you will be in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  58. So now it should be 1 hour and 33 mintues... and counting. So very precise Doc. haha

    ReplyDelete
  59. Well we will see you then Doc. As for me and princess what are we going to talk about now?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hey I just read this on Ryan Torain's Wiki page, so don't know if it is right:

"Torain was waived/injured by the Broncos on August 12, 2009 and subsequently reverted to injured reserve. He was released with an injury settlement on August 16."

So does that mean Torain is on our IR list?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Have no idea. I'm putting our games on my Broncos calender and YAY for me, I get to stare at Marshall for the whole month of October and then Cutler in December. grrrr

    ReplyDelete
  62. He could be but I never pay attention to what's on wikipedia... anyone can post anything on that site so you never know if its accurate info you're reading. Its such a bad source for info cause at my school, we're not allowed to quote anything from that site in a paper cause you never know if its true or not. If you do, then you get an automatic F. So who knows if that's true or not about Torain.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Just thought it was interesting and it would be dumb to quote Wiki, but it is a good source to start from as they are numerous links to the actually information on it. It is always best to cross references information.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Well if he really is on our IR, his name should be under the IR list on DB.com. Highly doubt that he is though. Sounds like McD let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah he isn't there and I can't find any more information about him. But I did read that the Texans are not interested in him so who knows where he will end up.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Too bad no one seems interested in him, he's full of talent. Still can't believe they let him go. He was doing great in training camp. Find it a little ironic though, they cut him almost as soon as Moreno finally signed a deal. It was almost like they were holding on to Torain in case Moreno didn't sign and when he did make a deal, Torain gets the boot. Evil plan if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  67. If he stays health I think he would have made the team easily. But he just can't do it. I wish him the best, I think whoever shanahan coachs he will pick him up.

On another note Lamont Jordon has not impressed me at all. He is old and slow.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yeah I hope Torain can find a place in the NFL, he's too good to go out like this. Would love to see him have a great career just wish it could've been in Denver.

Agreed about Jordan. He hasn't looked very sharp.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Walker wasn't to bad, but I want to see more Hillis. I loved it when Hillis went rumbling down the field being lead by Larsen, bummer Clady had to get a clipping penalty on the play.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yeah hopefully come regular season Hillis will get way more play time and attention. He's deserving of it. If that is what McD is thinking, to let him play more during the season, then by all means I hope he doesn't play too much during the pre season. Would absolutely hate to see him get injured during the next 2 games.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I just hope we stick it to the Bears and get a win. Oh and Doc should be back in 10 mins.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Florio's_mom where you been brother, and Doc is late.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I just watched the postgame vid on DB.com and McD is a midget, Orton, Simms and Bradstater all tower over him.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yeah we need to get that win over the Bears for the obvious reason and we need to start getting in the habit of winning games now for the sake of our season.

    ReplyDelete
  75. hey aussie. my sisters birthday party at elitches in denver/

    ReplyDelete
  76. What's up florio. LOL Aussie, so glad you noticed he's short, haha. Too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh ok Florio, did you go to that thursday training camp like you said you were? And princess you still around, are you doing homework?

    ReplyDelete
  78. OMG, I love Elitches!! haha Man I need to move back to CO asap!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'm not doing homework right now, just been distracted.

    ReplyDelete
  80. To bad Florio, oh well.

    And what?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yeah I figured you were either doing homework or were distracted.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yeah they were many positives from that game but the second half was terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  83. haha, even when I'm doing homework I'm distracted. And don't get me started on the 2nd half of our game again. I'm just now starting to calm down from that conversation, don't get me all fired up now. Got to go to sleep here soon.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Still don't know why when we got to the one we tried to pass it in three times, which lead to the intercept. Give Hillis the ball and have Larsen block for him, TD all day baby.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I really think we should have won this game. You have hillis punch it in for the score instead of the int, thats 7 points. And the run by Hillis which was called back by the penalty was to the Hawks 11 so we may have scored again. Mistakes killed us.

    ReplyDelete
  86. And where is Doc, he is over 20 mins late, he promised remember.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yeah we definitely should've won that game. Those penalties always backfire as do the really silly mistakes. I was fine with Orton going for the TD on 4th down but he should've been smarter about it and not try to be a hero. Going for something like that with your left arm when you're not used to that was just dumb. I cannot for the life of me get that one play out of my head. Getting on my nerves. lol

haha Aussie, you sound real disappointed in Doc. You miss your wittle friend? lol And he should know better... shouldn't make promises you can't keep.

    ReplyDelete
  88. night guys. im going to watch district 9 early tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Alright Catch you later Florio.

    ReplyDelete
  90. hey guys, looks like I'm a little late

    ReplyDelete
  91. And look who finally decides to show up.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm still around but I won't be on for too much longer. Gonna leave in a few minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Meh it isn't my problem Doc, what you been doing. And I guess it is night time for the princess.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I can't blog with Florio

    ReplyDelete
  95. Aussie, same thing you were doing 1800 minutes ago

    ReplyDelete
  96. Doc, why can't you be on here when florio is?

    ReplyDelete
  97. MADDEN! Love that stuff, and why can't you blog with Florio????

    ReplyDelete
  98. I found out I'm allergic to him.

Aussie, I planed on playing 2 games. the game cheated me the first time so the guy I was playing with won. the game cheaed me because I was at 10 yard line and was about to kick the game winning field goal in overtime and then some magical way I get 3 holding penalties in a row so I was at about the 40 and missed the field goal. then when he got the ball back I had 2 facemasks. It was BS I was so PO'd. so I told him if we played again I would beat him so we played again and I beat him. Then we played a third game to see who was actually better. and then I won. then I ate a top ramen and now here I am.

    ReplyDelete
  99. HAHAHAHA, you're allergic to florio?? Okay, that's too funny. I'm out for the night. Later fellas

    ReplyDelete
  100. I am. notice how I never blog whenever he is

    ReplyDelete
  101. See ya Princess, allergic to him that is funny, I can't wait to get home and update my roster I still have not done it. Which means my franchise is F'ed, oh well I will play superstar mode till the season starts.

    ReplyDelete
  102. superstar is fun. now that I have xbox I figured xbox live ranked matches are better than franchise mode. then you're playing against actual people instead of a computer.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think they wrecked franchise mode because I really liked the way you draft and finding good players. Making crap guys great. I enjoyed more setting up the team than actual playing with it. Now it is too quick and not in depth. And it is so hard to find out your roster breakdown.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I like playing with the up to date rosters.

It also gets boring just playing the CPU.

    I gotta go. later Aussie

    ReplyDelete
  105. Princess, read you're comments about Torain, I don't think they were just keeping him until Moreno got signed. McDaniels, Turner, and lots of the other coaches praised Torain for how he played. Torain was just cursed with the injury bug. The team didn't want to pay him if he was just going to keep getting hurt and never able to stay healthy.

    ReplyDelete
  106. how bout the Rockies, getting future HOF Jason Giambi to a minor league deal.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Well I hope they saw that Torain was great. Just seems a little too ironic that they held on to him and then Moreno gets in the picture and he's gone. Yeah I know he has an injury but if I remember correctly, it wasn't that serious. He would've stayed out probably all pre season... why would we want him playing in those games anyway? Would really love to know if Torain hadn't gotten injured, would he still be here despite Moreno signing a deal? The world may never know.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Princess, the injury prevented him from playing in the preseason so the coaches wouldn't have had a glimpse of what he would look like in real game action.

  112. A little late I know.. but really nice write up their "Broooo".

Unfortunately I was limited to the highlights and saw the screens work too easily. They adjusted pretty quickly and so should we. Trying the same thing when circumstances change will only result in failure. Prehaps leaving an ILB in man on the RB would pick that up who knows. Im sure the coaches will see that in the tapes and adjust.

The TD by Butler was another TD which Goodman could have stopped or INT. He took one look at the ball and continued to play the man.. I was like WTF?? That ball sailed over him and Butler turned to watch the ball and all Goodman did was attempt to swat it without knowing where it was coming in from. I know I have heard and read about Champ... he plays the man as soon as the ball comes out of the QB's hand he plays the ball. The Flag route by TJ Housh was a soft TD he didn't even fake/step he ran up and the out. That close to the line he probably could have played off an on TJ's inside shoulder.

Some many things coming right and yet so many things not quite there. 2 more games to get it up to 90%.

Orton has been an under the radar type of player. Doesn't have the big arm, doesn't have scambliing skills BUT he is accurate and chips away at the job. I know he will get it done.. nervous times for him but the more he plays the better he'll get.
